Last weekend I worked for Alaina at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the All-Star race passing out free cigarettes for Native tobacco. Ironic, huh?! It was fun. I was in the infield working with an HPU student intern and Randi Leigh. Randi Leigh and I spent the first 3 hours at the Creed concert. I apparently made a friend with a chubby little 9 year old kid who decided he would stand beside me with his battery-powered, hand-held fan. Randi Leigh made friends with *typical* race fans. One even asked if he could win the company truck and offered to take her home in it! HA!

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were spent on Tryon Street, downtown Charlotte. We passed out Suave shampoo samples, cups, water bottles, and can coosies, and had a racing simulator available for race fans. Sunday, back to the track infield. More cigarettes!

Now i’m resting. Thankfully we have today off work so I can recoop and get ready. Tomorrow, back to the office.

Then off to Gatlinburg, TN tomorrow with the Outdoor Activities Club. Horseback riding and hanging out. It will be good to get away.

It made me chortle.

Although I kinda think it’s a little  creepy, we’ll see how it goes.

I read something recently in Aiden’s book, The Pursuit of God (Aiden being A. W. Tozer) - the blessedness of possessing nothing.   What I learned had to do with Abraham and Isaac.  Abraham was a man who gave what he had to God, however, there was one thing in his life in which he was reneging on.  I’ve heard the story several times:  God calls Abraham to take his son, his beloved son Isaac, whom he loves more than anything else, up on the mountain and sacrifice him to the Lord.  I honestly don’t know what I would do if God called me to sacrifice my son (one day, after I have one) or even my best friend, or brother.  I can say I wouldn’t have been as joyful as Abraham (true, Abraham did wrestle with God, but…)  One thing stuck out to me about this story this time…  before Abraham and Isaac went up on the mountain, Abraham says to his family and friends, “We’ll be back.”  Now, why did he say this?  Why did he assure his family that they would be back, especially when they went to sacrifice an animal they were not taking with them?  Because of one reason…

Abraham trusted in God and knew that God made a promise to him, a covanent (which cannot be broken, under any circumstance) concerning his son.  Abraham understood what a covanent was and knew that God really meant that Isaac would carry his family name.  So when God asked him to sacrifice the one thing that he loved more than anything, Abraham knew it wasn’t the end of Isaac.  However, Abraham had to learn that his love for his son was starting to harm his relationship with God.  He had to learn that God gave him his son to love, but not to possess.  Abraham had to release all ownership of everything he had.

Before he made that hike up that mountain, Abraham learned his lesson.  He joyfully gave up possession of the most beloved thing to him, and said, “We’ll be back.”  Oh, and the Lord kept his covanent (of course).

And to think, I can’t give up my ownership of little things like my iPod.
